As NASA advances its plan to send astronauts to the moon, the agency is inviting American industry, academia, the international community, other stakeholders and the public to provide advice on its deep space exploration strategy and objectives. NASA released a draft set of high-level objectives on Tuesday, May 17 local time, and identified 50 key points under four overall categories of exploration, including transportation and residence, lunar and Martian infrastructure, operations and science.
Comments should be submitted to the agency before closing on Tuesday, May 31.
PAM melroy, deputy director of NASA, said: "The feedback we receive on the goals we have set will inform our lunar and Mars exploration plans for the next 20 years. We are looking for internal and external NASA stakeholders to help us fine tune these goals and be as transparent as possible throughout the process. Through this approach, we will find potential gaps in our architecture and how our goals are consistent with those from industry and international partners Areas for future cooperation. "
Currently, this work is not expected to have formal information requests or other procurement activities. It is managed by a team from the exploration systems development mission at NASA headquarters in Washington.
Jim free, deputy director of NASA's exploration system development mission, said: "these goals will promote our first simulated Mars mission in space and prepare for the first human mission to the surface of the red planet. After reviewing the feedback on the goals, we will discuss the opinions with our partners and finalize our framework this fall."
It is reported that the agency will hold two stakeholder seminars and discuss feedback on the draft objectives. The first is planned to be held in June with partners from American industry and academia. They will be invited according to NASA's interest in their feedback on their goals, and then the second seminar will be held with international organizations in July.
In addition, the agency is also consulting with NASA staff to contribute to the updated objectives through the agency's internal procedures.
