For those who use lighttpd's lightweight and fast web server, the BSD licensed open source software is now available in a new version. Lighttpd 1.4.65 is most notable for its WebSockets support for http/2. The WebSockets protocol upgrade mechanism on http/1.1 transitions TCP connections from HTTP to WebSockets.
However, due to the basic changes of http/2, for example, the upgrade of header fields is not supported, WebSockets of http/2 need to be handled in different ways. Booting WebSockets from http/2 allows HTTP and WebSockets protocols to share a TCP connection, and extends http/2's more effective use of the network to WebSockets.
All http/2 WebSockets features are listed in IETF RFC 8441:
Today's lighttpd version 1.4.65 already supports WebSockets for http/2.
The new lighttpd version 1.4.65 also adds support for the "priority\u update" of http/2. Through http/2, the upload speed of requests is accelerated, various behaviors are improved, and TLS modules are prepared to use more powerful modern passwords by default, as well as other changes and fixes.
