Google's cloud computing department is forming a new team to provide services to developers running blockchain applications. In an open letter to employees on Friday, Amit zavery, vice president of Google cloud, said that the idea was to make the Google cloud platform the first choice for developers in this field.
"Although the formal implementation of Web3 is still very early, this is a market that has shown great potential. Many customers ask us to increase our support for Web3 and crypto related technologies," he wrote.
The pioneers of Web3 have created a set of decentralized and point-to-point systems. They hope these systems can form the next generation Internet. This new model challenges the current situation of the Internet and gets rid of the control of large-scale companies such as Amazon, Google and Facebook parent company meta platforms.
Google hopes to provide back-end services to developers interested in forming their own Web3 software, as the company is competing with Alibaba, Amazon and Microsoft for market share of cloud infrastructure.
In an interview with CNBC, zavey said: "we are not directly part of that cryptocurrency wave. We are providing companies with technology to use and take advantage of the distributed nature of Web3 in their current business and enterprises.".
When establishing the internal team of Web3 tools, Google is taking the next step to prove its commitment to the market. In January this year, Google's cloud computing Department revealed the plan of a digital asset team to cooperate with customers after the emerging growth of NFT. The company said it was studying how customers pay in cryptocurrency.
Zavery said that in the future, Google can design a system that can be adopted by other companies to make blockchain data easy to explore, and simplify the process of building and running blockchain nodes to verify and record transactions. He added that Google's tools can work in other computing environments, such as Amazon Web services.
