Apple no longer accepts bank card payments for subscriptions and app purchases using Apple ID in India. This prevents local users from using their credit or debit cards to buy apps from the app store, get icloud + and Apple Music subscriptions, or buy media content from Apple TV.
This change is due to the new automatic debit rules implemented by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), which came into force last year. These have disrupted regular online transactions. Apple's support page lists the available payment methods in each country it operates, showing that the technology giant only supports online banking, UPI and Apple ID balance in India. According to the support page, this change occurred in April.
Apple users complained on twitter that Apple canceled the option of credit card and debit card in the payment methods accepted by apple in India to shop with apple ID. those users who have added the card as a payment method to their account cannot make any new payment through apple ID. When a user tries to add or pay by card, Apple will throw an error message saying "this card type is no longer supported".
"Regulatory requirements in India apply to the processing of recurring transactions. If you hold an Indian debit or credit card and you have a subscription, these changes will affect your transactions. Some transactions may be rejected by banks and issuers," the support page said in an update. This change is also driving iPhone Manufacturers accept transactions through UPI and online banking.
For those who don't know, the new rules require businesses like apple to set an electronic instruction for customers' cards. On the other hand, customers also need to use two factor authentication and set up a new electronic authorization for recurring payments. Each time the customer needs to pay a subsequent payment of more than INR 5000, it needs to give consent, and the system processing process related to a given requirement has not been updated to a large extent.
In addition to apple, Google has also been affected by the update of RBI. Customers have trouble making payments and purchases on Google play and Youtube through their cards. Netflix has introduced UPI automatic payment support on its platform.
