Due to the production error of its blockchain, the blockchain platform Solana experienced a 4-hour downtime today Solana's official status page and Twitter account reported the problem at 1 a.m. Beijing time on June 2, and then restarted at 5 a.m. to bring the network back online.
According to the information of Anatoly Yakovenko, co-founder of Solana, and other developers on twitter, the problem is caused by an error in the persistent random number function of the blockchain. Yakovenko said on twitter that the problem "led some networks to consider the block invalid", so "no consensus could be reached".
Validators restarted the Solana network and disabled the persistent random number function. Yakovenko added that this error will be fixed in future updates. In summary, the Solana status page reports that the network was down for 4 hours and 10 minutes. At the time of writing, some Solana RPC nodes are still coming back online.
Solana is an emerging competitor of Ethereum. Ethereum has become a popular platform for NFT collections, decentralized applications (dapps), games and decentralized financial (DFI) services.
The value of the network's sol cryptocurrency rose sharply last fall, but has cooled in recent months along with most other cryptocurrency markets. At present, according to the data of coinmarketcap, Solana has dropped 11% in the past 24 hours to slightly higher than the price of $40, 84% lower than the peak of $260 in November last year.
