The apple pioneer Plaza store in Portland may soon see its steel fence erected after riots and robberies replaced by a transparent polycarbonate fence The apple store in Portland, Oregon, has been protected by a steel fence since February 2021. At that time, it had been closed for nine months, partly due to the epidemic prevention blockade brought by coronavirus.
The store was also robbed and damaged after the George Freud riots in May 2020. Subsequently, a fire broke out in the store, which was triggered during a protest after local police killed a man.
According to the Oregon field report, apple now plans to replace its tall metal barrier with a "store safety fence" made of transparent polycarbonate board. On May 3, 2022, representatives of apple and an unknown construction company held an online meeting with the neighborhood association in the city center.
"We were very impressed with this project," Walt Weyler, President of the association, told the journal. "We are very satisfied with its concept. We are glad that Apple will stay there and they will extend their investment in that part of our city."
It is reported that the proposed polycarbonate structure will surround the store, with a size of about 30 inches.
Apple reportedly asked participants not to take screenshots of the upcoming changes. However, an unnamed participant did take a rendering of Apple showing what the modified security facilities might look like.
Apple donated a mural of "black life events" painted on a store barricade to the non-profit organization "don't shoot" in 2021.
