On May 26, Beijing time, Deirdre O'Brien, head of Apple's retail business and human relations, told employees in a video this week that joining a trade union has a negative impact. Apple believes that the trade union will not be committed to safeguarding the rights and interests of employees**
Apple has not publicly opposed the recent union activities held in many retail stores across the United States, but its message to employees shows that Apple does not encourage employees to join collective bargaining agreements.
"What I want to say is that joining a trade union is your right, but not joining a trade union is also your right," O'Brien told employees. "If you face such a decision, I want to encourage you to consult a wide range of people and resources to understand what your work is like under Apple's collective bargaining agreement."
O'Brien said she believed Apple had responded to employees' concerns and that the Union would make it more difficult for company officials to solve the problems raised by employees. Currently, at least three of Apple's more than 270 U.S. retail stores are seeking to form unions. (author / Xiao Yu)
