The "Peak Mission 2022 - Integrated Scientific Research in the Very High Altitude Region of Mount Everest" was recently launched in the Everest region, which is the widest disciplinary coverage, the largest number of participating team members and the most advanced instrumentation since the launch of the 2017 integrated scientific research activities on the Tibetan Plateau. This is the most comprehensive scientific research with the widest disciplinary coverage, the largest number of participating scientific research team members and the most advanced instrumentation since the launch of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau comprehensive scientific research activity in 2017.
One of the important projects of this scientific research is to build an altitude gradient weather station on the north slope of Everest.
According to Zhao Huabiao, a researcher at the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and taskmaster of the Everest gradient weather station, the second Qinghai-Tibet scientific research team, together with the Tibetan mountaineering team, transported each 50-kilogram automatic weather station to the extremely cold and oxygen-deprived high slopes of Mount Everest to build them one by one and realize automatic data transmission.
At present, seven weather stations have been set up on Everest from 5,200 meters above sea level to 8,300 meters above sea level. In the near future, the second Qinghai-Tibetan scientific research team, together with the Tibetan mountaineering team, will summit Everest to complete the erection of weather stations at an altitude of 8,800 meters.
Once erected successfully, it will be the highest automatic weather station in the world.
As per the scheduled outlook, eight automatic weather stations with altitude gradient will record data on temperature, relative humidity, wind speed, wind direction and solar radiation on the north slope of Everest.
