Wal Mart, the largest retailer in the United States, is increasing its attraction to college graduates and has launched a fast track to become a store manager. The annual salary of these positions is usually more than $200000, which usually takes several years to obtain. Wal Mart said in a statement on Sunday that the new college 2career program will provide classroom training, practical experience and guidance to newly graduated and graduating college students.
The best performing employee will get a new management position, namely "emerging coach", with a starting salary of at least $65000 a year, and can quickly become a store manager.
"We believe that the emerging coach position is an additional channel to train high potential talents into future store managers, whose average salary is about $210000 in 2021. Through college 2career, our goal is to make emerging coaches store managers within two years," the retail giant said in a statement
The plan highlights that Wal Mart is seeking to increase the supply of managers in its more than 4700 U.S. stores at a time of tight U.S. labor market. These are not the only jobs Wal Mart is trying to fill. The company recently raised the starting salary of truck drivers to $110000. Like other retailers, Wal Mart has been raising wages and increasing education and training opportunities in recent years.
