Apple demonstrated the new continuity camera function in the WWDC keynote speech in 2022. Users can use the installation tool to install iphone Install directly on macbook Cover or external display, and enter the rear camera to use as the system camera. As it acts as a system camera, continuity camera will automatically appear as an option wherever a camera can be selected. Testers were able to see the iPhone 13 Pro Max as the camera of choice in Skype, although the application was not updated to support it directly.
When using iPhone as your Mac webcam, the control options appear in the control center. At the top of the panel, there are two options to control the camera and microphone. Users can also choose to use different microphones and continuity cameras to mix and match as needed. Camera options include center stage, portrait, studio lighting, and desktop mode. Sound isolation can also be enabled on the microphone. The central stage relies on ultra wide cameras, so it needs sufficient light to reduce noise levels. Disable the "center stage" and the quality will be significantly improved as the iPhone switches to its main wide-angle camera. Portrait mode will blur your background, while stage lighting will increase the lighting effect and help illuminate your face. All three settings can be used in series.
Desktop mode is a bit awkward, depending on when you use it. The camera can only see so far away, so it needs enough space in front to really see a "table". In the test, about 30 degrees below the camera three feet away, the desk mode focuses on the tester's chest. In the current beta version, the desk mode seems to be closer to the "shirt mode".
It seems that the desk mode works best when connected to the MacBook cover, or it may be the result of the beta. However, although the ultra wide camera does have a wide field of view, it cannot see directly below, although the WWDC presentation seems to imply this. The setting and control of continuity camera are simple. As long as the Mac and iPhone are on the same network and the iPhone is not locked, users can take advantage of this feature. When MacOS Ventura and IOS 16 are launched in late 2022, continuity camera will be available as a feature.
