According to a DigiTimes report, TSMC's next-generation 3nm process technology will be given priority to two "VIP" customers, Apple and Intel. AMD Zen 5 may be forced to delay its release until 2024-2025. AMD now has three routes to choose from, the report says. One is to break the rhythm of releasing new processors every two years, and delay the Zen 5 back to late 2024 or early 2025.
The second is the N5P process using a modified version of the 5nm process. N5P still has some advantages over NVIDIA's 4N process, but since Zen 5 is inherently a major architectural upgrade, the lack of support for the latest N3 process would be a major setback overall.
Three of them are hard on the 3nm process, only to be Apple and Intel two "VIP" to take advantage of the capacity situation, Zen 5 initial supply will be severely limited. However, it is less likely that AMD will choose this route.
It is not confirmed if AMD Zen 5 will be manufactured using the 3nm process. However, it is known that AMD Zen 4 will use TSMC's 5nm process. As for how AMD will choose, time is still to be tested.
Also, users such as NVIDIA and MediaTek are also expected to use TSMC's 3nm process technology, but are not expected to go into production until the second half of 2023 or later.
