During the WWDC 2022 keynote speech, Apple announced that users will be able to initiate, hang up, or mute VoIP calls in supported Apple watch applications such as WebEx** As part of the watchos 9 software update, this means that apple is expanding VoIP calls on the apple watch beyond FaceTime audio calls.

Macrumors pointed out that with Apple Extend the callkit framework to watchos 9, which will allow users to answer VoIP calls directly through the apple watch on their wrist.
Previously, apple watch users have been able to experience FaceTime audio calls over Wi Fi networks through dial-up apps. The extended support for VoIP calls in watchos 9 will bring more choices.
Unfortunately, Apple has not disclosed more details about this feature. As for the enthusiasm of mainstream VoIP call application developers in the market for this callkit improvement, it still needs to be continuously observed in the next few months.
Finally, watchos 9 has now provided test previews to developers. If all goes well, the official version will be launched to all users this fall (probably in September).
