The first financial reporter learned exclusively from the inside of Tesla Shanghai Super factory that at present, Tesla Shanghai harbor super factory has added another shift of workers, from the original single shift system to the double shift system, which also means that Tesla's production capacity has been further improved. Since Tesla resumed production on April 19, due to personnel restrictions, logistics and other factors, Tesla has maintained single shift production for about a month. Until last Monday (May 23), Tesla began double shift production, which is one step closer to the full recovery of production capacity.
A relevant person told China business news that, with the support of the government, the number of workers in Tesla factory has increased compared with the initial stage of resumption of work and production. The two shift system still adopts closed-loop production. The output has been basically the same as that before the closure of the epidemic. It is expected to return to normal next month.
Another relevant person told the first finance and economics reporter that the logistics has been basically restored to ensure production and supply. However, the logistics has not fully recovered to the pre epidemic level because it involves many complex factors such as cross provincial epidemic prevention and control.
The first financial reporter learned that before the outbreak, Tesla adopted a three shift production system, with a weekly (24 hours a day, 7 days) output of nearly 20000 vehicles and a daily output of more than 2000 vehicles. Tesla originally expected the production capacity to return to the pre epidemic level in mid May, but this plan experienced several delays due to supply chain problems. As of May 17, Tesla's overall capacity utilization has only recovered to 45%.
With the support of Shanghai Economic and Information Technology Commission, port management committee and other departments, and with the joint resumption of work and production of more than 100 Tesla suppliers, Shanghai Automotive industry chain, as a key support area, is also further restoring production capacity.
A Tesla multinational supply chain enterprise factory in Shanghai told the first financial reporter that the current logistics has basically recovered to the level before the epidemic. The manufacturer also experienced a shortage of raw materials and packaging materials at the initial stage of returning to work, but the current production capacity has been greatly increased.
After more than two years of operation, Tesla Shanghai Super factory has achieved a localization rate of about 95% in the supply chain, which also helps enterprises better cope with the impact of transnational supply chains caused by the containment of the epidemic.
In addition, as Tesla's "global export center", Lingang super factory is still actively meeting export demand. Export logistics is also fully supported by the Customs Department. As of the middle of May, two batches of full Tesla electric vehicles had been shipped to Europe and other places, with a total export of about 9000.
