NVIDIA Pays Fines to Settle Cryptocurrency-Related Misrepresentation Charges
On May 6, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) issued a notice announcing a settlement with NVIDIA in which NVIDIA agreed to pay a $5.5 million penalty for failing to adequately disclose that cryptocurrency mining was boosting its gaming business. The SEC previously found that NVIDIA had failed to disclose that demand for cryptocurrency mining was a significant factor in the significant growth in revenue from GPUs designed and sold for gaming in consecutive quarters in fiscal 2018.
The SEC believes that NVIDIA's failure to disclose in its quarterly statements (Form 10-Q) that these material earnings and cash flow fluctuations were related to "highly volatile" businesses made it impossible for investors to accurately judge the predictive value of past results. In addition, for the company's other businesses, NVIDIA had stated that they were driven by mining demand, but omitted gaming-related businesses; the SEC believes that this selective disclosure had the effect of misleadingly creating the false impression that the gaming business was not driven by mining. source

Amazon shuts down Kindle in-app purchase on Android platform
