SSC tuatara has officially become the fastest car in the world, but it is still not the first mass production car in the world with a speed of 300mp. After YouTube said that SSC will achieve a speed of 316mph in 2020, the title remains to be discussed. But the car does seem capable of doing that.
In the latest test, SSC ensured that everything could be verified and all doubts could be answered. When the car came back, it made a record - just exceeding the previous mark and recording the two-way official speed of 282.9mph (455.3km / h). Of course, it's still a long way from 316mph, but this time there's a good reason.
First, the track - the space shuttle runway at the Kennedy Space Center - is only 2.3 miles (3.7 kilometers) long, and finally there is a braking area of 0.7 miles (1.1 kilometers). In addition, the driver is not a determined racing driver with decades of experience, but Dr. Larry caplin, a dentist, health entrepreneur and philanthropist, who owns the SSC tuatara #001 and drives it himself. According to the company, he adjusted the power to about 1450 horsepower while driving, not the full 1750 horsepower of the car.
Anyway, Caplan is now back on the same track and trying again. It is worth noting that this is not a recording attempt, this is just a high-speed test run. However, SSC still ensured that the car carried two raselogic VBox GNSS measurement systems and life racing GPS. In addition, raselogic technicians ensured that everything was set correctly on site, and "independent analyst" Robert Mitchell, one of the key figures who rejected the original record statement, was also present. In fact, he represented the Internet.
In one-way operation, also on the short runway, Caplan reached 295mph (475km / h) before pressing the button and stopping this time. The car is still accelerating when the brake has to be pressed, which shows that 300mph can be achieved if there is more space.
As a result, it began to look more and more like tuatara was able to reach the speed it originally claimed, and the automotive world noticed this again. Now, SSC must obtain all appropriate approvals and try again on a flat and desolate road in order to permanently solve the problem before Hennessey or Koenigsegg brings it under his command.
