On May 31, according to foreign media reports, earlier this week, foreign media reported that due to the challenge of talent shortage in South Korea's chip manufacturing industry, Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix, two local chip manufacturers in South Korea, have suggested that South Korea provide subsidies for local universities to develop semiconductors related colleges, set up talent training programs, and provide scholarships for students of related majors, Support the cultivation of chip related talents.
According to foreign media reports, the proposal of Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix has also been recognized by the Korean government. The Ministry of science, technology, information and communication of Korea has prepared to cultivate more than 3000 semiconductor professionals by 2027 through the establishment of new semiconductor research institutions, school enterprise cooperation, talent exchange and other means.
South Korea plans to train more than 3000 semiconductor professionals, which was revealed by lizonghao, director of the Ministry of science, technology, information and communication of South Korea, when he met with senior executives of Samsung Electronics, SK Hynix and other important semiconductor enterprises in South Korea at the Korean Academy of science and technology on Monday local time.
According to South Korean media reports, South Korea plans to set up new semiconductor research institutions among the four top research institutions, namely, the Korean Academy of science and technology, the Kwangju Academy of science and technology, the Daegu Qingbei Academy of science and technology and the national Ulsan Academy of science and technology, to cultivate more than 200 talents in the semiconductor field every year.
In addition, South Korea also plans to strengthen the school enterprise cooperation projects of the Korean Academy of science and technology and the Kwangju Academy of science and technology, train chip engineers, and expand talent exchange projects with overseas universities, research institutions and high-tech enterprises.
At present, South Korea has two major global chip manufacturers, Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix. The former is the world's largest memory chip manufacturer and the latter is the second largest manufacturer. Both companies also provide wafer foundry services. Among them, the manufacturing process of Samsung Electronics can keep up with the pace of TSMC. Both Samsung Electronics and TSMC are promoting the mass production of 3nm manufacturing process.
In order to solve the shortage of semiconductor talents in recent years and maintain their competitiveness in the global market, South Korea has cultivated semiconductor talents through the establishment of new semiconductor research institutions and the increase of school enterprise cooperation in master's and doctoral programs.
