According to a Korean Professor, Samsung display is studying blue phosphorescent OLED materials for quantum dot (QD) - OLED panels "Samsung display seems to be giving priority to the application of blue phosphorescent OLED materials in advanced TV panels," Kwon Jang Hyuk, a professor at Kyunghee University, said at the SID 2022 review seminar, according to the elec
It is reported that display manufacturers and UDC and other material companies are studying phosphorescent OLED materials to prolong the service life of OLED panels. At present, the OLED panels for TVs and smart phones use red and green phosphorescent OLED materials with internal luminous efficiency of 100%, while the luminous efficiency of blue fluorescent materials is only about 25%.
The report points out that Samsung shows that the current qd-oled panel uses blue fluorescent OLED material and green phosphorescent OLED material as the emission layer. If blue phosphorescent OLED material is used, Samsung display can reduce the number of blue layers to one.
In February this year, Samsung display published a paper entitled "abnormally stable blue phosphorescent organic light emitting diodes" in the journal Nature photonics. Kwon Jang Hyuk said: "this research was completed more than a year ago. Samsung display may have developed blue phosphorescent OLED materials, and the company's goal is to achieve visible research results within the year."
