In order to solve the destructive memory design changes caused by the growth of large amounts of data from artificial intelligence, AR and VR, software technology that can work with the latest hardware advances is needed. An effort in this regard comes from Samsung and red hat company known as Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL).
Yongcheol BAE, executive vice president of Samsung and head of the memory application engineering team, commented on the cooperation with red hat. He said:
Samsung and red hat will work together to define and standardize memory software solutions to embrace the continuous development of server and memory hardware, while building a stronger memory ecosystem. We will invite partners from the whole IT industry to join us to expand the software hardware memory ecosystem and create greater customer value.
Together, they are committed to the development and verification of open source software for memory and storage products, including nvme SSD, CXL memory, computing memory / storage (hbm-pim, smart SSD) and construction, in many server environments. The strategic partnership on software technology of next-generation memory solutions also extends to the platform launched by Samsung: Samsung memory R & D cloud (SMRC).
Marjet andriesse, senior vice president and head of Asia Pacific of red hat, said:
In the coming data centric era, the integration of memory centric hardware and software architecture will become more and more important. Therefore, red hat is happy to participate in the joint action with Samsung.
SMRC will serve as a center for customers and partners to evaluate the best combination of new software products and memory hardware. Samsung will open this new platform in the second half of 2022.
