According to people familiar with the matter, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is evaluating Musk's $44 billion acquisition of twitter, and the FTC will set next month as the deadline for deciding whether to make an in-depth evaluation of the acquisition. According to the U.S. M & a law, musk must inform the FTC and the Department of justice of the transaction and wait at least 30 days to complete the transaction, so that regulators can investigate potential antitrust issues.
FTC can request more information and issue a second request, which will further delay the completion of the transaction.
An FTC spokesman declined to comment. Spokesmen for twitter and musk did not respond to requests for comment.
Antitrust experts do not expect the deal to raise monopoly concerns.
