It is reported that EU Industry Minister Thierry Breton met with Tesla CEO Elon Musk in Texas on Monday. Before musk completed its acquisition of twitter, they reached an agreement on EU digital media regulation.
A few weeks before the meeting, musk, the world's richest man, just reached an acquisition of twitter for $44 billion. Brayton posted a video on twitter in which they explained the EU's digital services act to musk.
"It's quite consistent with what you think we should do," Brayton said Breton also tagged the tweet with #dsa. After Breton's introduction, musk responded, "I think it's exactly what I think."
The two did not discuss the new bill in detail. The Digital Services Act stipulates that if enterprises do not control illegal content, they will be subject to high fines. For example, these rules prohibit advertising directed at children or based on religion, gender, race and political views.
Last month, musk reached a deal with Twitter and promised to promote "freedom of speech" by cracking down on spam robots and reducing censorship, so as to revitalize the social media platform and expand its number of users. But the billionaire's comments drew a rebuttal from Breton, who said twitter must abide by the new EU rules known as the digital services act and deal with online content that violates the rules.
Breton and musk originally planned to discuss global supply chain issues during the EU official's visit to Tesla's new plant in Austin.
