The Dutch Competition Regulator Announced Today That Apple's Rules Around The Dutch Dating App Are Still Not In Place. In A Statement Obtained By Reporter Nando Kasteleijn, The Consumer And Market Authority (ACM) Said That Although Apple's Cancellation Of The Requirement For The Dutch Dating App To Create A Separate App To Accept Alternative Payments Was A Step Forward, The Company Had Not Fully Complied With Dutch And European Regulations**
ACM Has Fined Apple 50 Million Euros For Non-compliance Between January And March. The Competition Regulator Said It Was Now Preparing A New Order And Would Announce Additional Penalties In The Coming Weeks.
This Interesting Series Of Fines Began In December 2021, When ACM Announced That Apple Had To Let The Dating App Accept Other Payment Methods On The App Store In The Netherlands. Apple Complied With This Requirement, But By Asking The Dutch Dating App To Submit A Separate App To Accept Alternative Payments. Since Then, Apple Has Made Some Changes To Its Rules Around The Dutch Dating App, But ACM Is Still Dissatisfied, So That It Has Issued 10 Consecutive Fines Of 5 Million Euros.
Apple Previously Said That Although It Disagreed With The Order And Was Appealing The Decision, The Changes It Announced On March 30 Showed That The Company Had Been Committed To Fulfilling Its Legal Obligations In The Netherlands.
