Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, criticized ESG (environmental, social and corporate governance) rating again over the weekend, called for stopping "extremely hypocritical ESG rating", and pointed out that the current rating system allows oil companies to get better scores, but Tesla's score is very low, and the whole system is a game.
Musk wrote: "yes! Stop the heinous false ESG assessment. Tesla gets low scores, while oil companies can get good scores. The whole system is a game!"
This is not the first time musk criticized the ESG rating system. After the dispute between him and Bill Gates over Gates' short selling of Tesla was exposed last month, some Twitter users commented that there was no problem for gates to short Tesla. Because Tesla's ESG rating only reached the average level, it was also evaluated as "inconsistent" with the climate goal.
Musk responded: "ESG ratings are meaningless!"
Tesla, an electric vehicle manufacturer under musk, also released a report on Friday, pointing out that the existing ESG rating method has fundamental defects.
Tesla said in its 2021 impact report that the current ESG report focuses on measuring the dollar value of risk / return rather than measuring its positive impact on the world. Tesla claims that this will mean that investors who entrust their money to ESG funds, a large investment institution, will invest in companies that worsen rather than improve climate change.
