The arrival of the new Maserati MC20 marks the automaker's return to the real supercar field. For the MC20, the next chapter of its growth is the new MC20 Cielo, which is the highly anticipated convertible version of Maserati butterfly door super run.
Cielo is translated as "sky" in Italian, which is the most thing Cielo owners see from the driver's seat. Whether the roof is up or down, this can be achieved - because the car uses a retractable glass roof, which means that in either case, it can provide a view of the sky. It only takes 12 seconds to open or close the roof. If the driver is tired of the scenery in the sky, perhaps because the sun is too strong, he or she can simply click a choice on the 10.3-inch Android powered touch screen, and the polymerized dispersed liquid crystal (PDLC) smart glass can immediately switch from transparent to opaque.
In addition to the new car roof, the MC20 Cielo maintains the tasteful curve of its old solid roof siblings, but has a trident tattoo on its polycarbonate bonnet. To tell the truth, oversized stickers feel more like things pasted by refitters on their grandiose works, which seems to have a strong conflict with Cielo's smooth and introverted beauty. Thankfully, Maserati clarified that car owners can choose not to do such decoration.
As for the power, it comes from Maserati's Nettuno engine, which is worth mentioning as much as the car itself. With the help of twin turbochargers, it can output up to 621 horsepower and 730 n · m peak torque from the 3.0L V6 engine, setting a new benchmark. The weight of this car is 143 pounds (65 kg) - 3395 pounds (1540 kg) lighter than the Coupe version, which ensures that the car can continue to obtain exciting data from its twin turbochargers - 3 seconds 100 km acceleration, 9.2 seconds 0-124 mph (200 km / h) and 199 mph (320 km / h). As a reference, the two door sports car version is 2.9 seconds, 8.8 seconds and 202 mph (325 km / h) respectively.
In order to keep the omni-directional handling and driving dynamics as sharp and confident as the linear speed, Maserati has gently modified the carbon fiber distribution in the single structure of the MC20 to compensate for the loss of torsional rigidity after being converted to a convertible roof. The carmaker also uses an adjustable double wishbone suspension with an optional height adjustment system.
The MC20 has always been a true supercar in the 21st century. The Cielo variant has for the first time introduced a new 360 degree camera, autonomous emergency braking and traffic sign information as part of its driving assistance kit. In addition, it uses parking sensors, rear view cameras and blind spot monitoring, which are part of the my22 MC20 coupe kit.
The new roof does not affect the unique butterfly door. It separates the larger world from the two seater cockpit soaked in carbon fiber, Alcantara and leather. The driver walks in and holds a thickened Alcantara decorated sports steering wheel while looking at the 10.3-inch digital instrument panel. The shift paddle of the dual clutch eight speed transmission is within reach, and the blue engine start button is called at the right position. A new five driving mode selector is located on the central channel in the form of a touch button. The optional Sonus Faber 12 speaker premium sound system can automatically adjust the time arrangement, equalization and sound level according to the on / off position of MC20 Cielo roof, so as to maintain accurate and seamless audio performance, so as to adapt to the real-time internal environment.
Although Maserati did not announce the price at this week's Cielo auto show, it is expected that the price will be higher than the MC20 coupe's $212000.
