As we all know, SUV is the most popular and profitable model at present, which is also the main reason for many luxury brands to launch SUV models, more radical car enterprises directly announced the suspension of cars and coupes and focused on the production of SUV. But Lexus does not agree with this approach. Recently, Spiros Fotinos, director of European and electric vehicle planning, publicly said that they recognize the demand for SUVs in the global market, but will not give up traditional cars .
"We are studying other body types so that we can not only provide a wider range of models, but also meet our growth ambitions in Europe." When asked to replace the discontinued CT model, he added: "we don't rule out any possibility."
Spiros Fotinos also mentioned the concept car of Lexus electric vehicle series announced in December 2021, including derivatives of sedans such as four door sedan, five door hunting car, five door crossover car and two door convertible , as well as an all electric supercar known as the successor of LFA.
When talking about Toyota's e-tnga architecture, Fotinos said it was a good starting point, but he also revealed that Lexus was actively looking for "other opportunities". He explained that "for automobile brands, it is technically impossible to use a single special platform for electric vehicles to support all vehicle lines."
Indeed, despite the good scalability of e-tnga, Lexus still needs other architectures to produce high-performance models, such as super run, or future flagship cars and SUVs, so as to compete with old luxury brands such as BBA.
Interestingly, the first electric vehicle of Lexus is the electric version of UX, followed by the new RZ 450e based on Toyota e-tnga platform, which is also an SUV. It can be seen that Lexus still attaches great importance to SUV , otherwise it would not have put the first shot on them on the road of transforming pure electricity.
