Sony's new version of PS plus has been promoted. One of the major selling points is the PS1, PS2, PS3 and PSP classic game library. So how do these classic games perform on the new hardware? Maybe many players will feel that these antique games on today's PS4 and ps5 are not as smooth as turning on the speed change gear? Well... Actually... Anyway, now someone has done a test, and the actual effect can only be said to be... Average. Limited resolution, conflicting functions and, most importantly, poor performance, even on the ps5 platform.
Analysis video:
PS1 original games now run at 1440p native resolution. Since PS4 basic edition does not support it, it will downsample to 1080p. Meanwhile, PS2 games only run at 720p. In the video, the running effects of the PS3 version of Jack and duster and the latest PS plus version on ps4/ps5 are compared. The result is that the PS3 version has a better picture. In fact, PS2 games do not have native ps5 versions, only PS4 versions that can be run through backward compatibility.
The performance of frame rate is also relatively general. We can see that Jack and duster can be reduced to 40fps and toy story can be reduced to 30fps. I don't know whether Sony is trying to simulate the effect of the original hardware, or whether this situation is caused by unknown reasons. But now the players who subscribe to this service must be running to make classic games run to 60fps (or 30fps which is more suitable for playing).
Now there are some new functions added to some games, such as data saving and rewind, but they are only effective in PS1 and PSP games. Of course, PS3 games can only be realized through the original hardware cloud streaming, so there will be no new functions or performance improvements. In a word, the PS plus classic game library still gives people a rush feeling. I wonder if there will be any adjustment in the future.
