Fedora will retain its traditional BIOS support, which was decided by the community earlier this month. Previously, it was proposed to cancel the traditional BIOS support and focus resources on the startup that only supports UEFI Next, Fedora will rely more on the community to maintain its support for traditional boot, so Fedora BIOS boot sig (special interest group) has now been established
Hans de Goede of red hat announced this morning that Fedora BIOS boot sig has been established to help maintain the Fedora boot stack of traditional hardware.
Community members can join this special interest group to help regularly test Fedora's next version on pure BIOS hardware and help solve / fix BIOS related errors in fedora.
As part of this SIG, a dedicated mailing list and bugzilla account have been established to help the community collaborate on Fedora's traditional BIOS startup support.
For more details on Fedora SIG, see today's announcement and the wiki page of BIOS boot sig:
Fedora's traditional BIOS support is still adhered to, but it will depend on the support of the community to ensure that it is maintained and not in disrepair. In particular, red hat engineers pay less attention to those old-fashioned hardware and pay more attention to modern desktops / notebooks / servers that support UEFI startup.
