Amd has announced its new ryzen 6000 APU lineup, known as Mendocino, which will target the mainstream notebook field. The surprising thing about the new lineup is that it is driven by Zen 2 CPU and rDNA 2 GPU core. The AMD ryzen 6000 APU lineup currently includes Cezanne, Barcelona and the upcoming Mendocino APU.
The difference is that Cezanne and Barcelona APU are standard products, while Mendocino APU is a mainstream and entry-level product, starting at $399-699.
Unlike the other two Apus, the AMD ryzen 6000 "Mendocino" APU will be equipped with Zen 2 CPU and rDNA 2 GPU core. These cores will be upgraded and optimized on the latest TSMC 6 nm nodes, and provide 4 cores and 8 threads. This sounds a lot like the configuration amd uses on its Van Gogh SOC, which provides computing power for the steam deck. But given that the new APU lineup will be used in laptops, these chips will also have thermal and power advantages over Van Gogh. Nevertheless, "Mendocino" is still expected to become a super efficient product and is mentioned to operate under a battery life of more than 10 hours (internal prediction).
Amd ryzen 6000 "Mendocino" APU is expected to be launched in the fourth quarter of 2022, just a few months from the release of Zen 4 driven ryzen 7000 "dragon range" CPU and "phoenix" APU.
