According to the accident video posted on the electek website, the owner said that he had received the error notification and saw the smoke. He said that in order to leave the vehicle, he "had to smash the windows... I kicked open the windows because everything stopped working. The power supply did not work, the door could not be opened, and the windows could not be put down".
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said on Thursday that it was "aware of the matter and has contacted the manufacturer for information". Tesla has yet to comment.
