Not long ago, the phrase "OLED laptop" also meant it was a luxury. However, in the past few years, this trend has begun to change slowly. Samsung has begun mass production of OLED panels for more portable dimensions. Although they are still not very common, we have begun to see OLED devices with less than $1000 gradually enter the shelves.
Acer's mainstream model swift 3 released today should excite those who want to see more affordable and available OLEDs. Acer swift 3, once praised by many media as one of the best student laptops in the market, will adopt OLED screen from this year. It will have a resolution of 2.8k and cover 100% of the dci-p3 gamut.
The starting price of $899.99 means that the swift 3 will not be the cheapest OLED notebook on the market (and this starting price is higher than the previous starting price of the swift 3), but it is indeed likely to be one of the most affordable OLED 14 inch notebooks you see this year. The basic model will be as much as a few hundred dollars cheaper than the more gorgeous OLED notebooks we've seen recently, and will provide a new choice for notebook buyers who don't want to compromise on screen quality for less than $1000.
Among other things, swift 3 OLED includes 12th generation Intel Core H series processor and 16GB lpddr5 memory. It weighs only 3.09 pounds, and Acer claims its battery life is 10 hours. The device is expected to be launched in the United States / Europe, the Middle East and Africa in July and in China in May.
Acer also released the flip version of spin 3 and spin 5, which are also equipped with 12th generation Intel processors. The higher end 14 inch spin 5 has a 2560 x 1600 panel and 16GB of lpddr5 memory, and supports Acer's active stylus. Acer said the new cooling system upgrade would "improve performance by 75 percent" over the 11th generation models. Spin 3 (also 14 inches) has an FHD screen and also supports active stylus. Spin 5 will launch in July, starting at $1349.99, while spin 3 will launch in the United States in August and in Europe, the Middle East and Africa in June, starting at $849.99.
