On the afternoon of May 24, the signing ceremony of land acquisition and resettlement agreement for the construction of Zhejiang Tiantai pumped storage power station and the construction contract of the main project was held in Tiantai County, Zhejiang Province, marking that the pumped storage power station with the highest rated head in the world has entered a new stage of comprehensive construction of the main project.
Tiantai pumped storage power station is located in Tantou town and Yongxi Township, Tiantai county. It is planned to install four reversible water turbine generator units with a single unit capacity of 425000 kW, with a total installed capacity of 1.7 million KW. After completion, the power station mainly undertakes the tasks of peak shaving, valley filling, frequency modulation, phase modulation, energy storage and emergency standby of Zhejiang power grid, and provides flexible dispatching capacity for East China power grid.
It is understood that Tiantai pumped storage power station is a key implementation project of the 14th five year plan in the national pumped storage medium and long term development plan (2021-2035) and a major construction project planned during the 14th Five Year Plan period in Zhejiang Province. It is also the first approved pumped storage power station of the three Gorges construction project under the Three Gorges group during the 14th Five Year Plan period. It serves the transformation of the national energy structure of the Three Gorges group and helps to achieve the goals of carbon peak and carbon neutralization, It provides another powerful starting point for helping Zhejiang Province develop with high quality and build a demonstration area of common prosperity. In addition, Tiantai pumped storage power station has a number of industry-leading indicators, such as high rated head, large installed capacity and long diversion inclined shaft. The construction of the power station will further improve the design, construction and operation level of pumped storage in China.
The relevant person in charge of Tiantai County said that Tiantai pumped storage power station is the largest single project invested in the history of Tiantai County, which is of great significance to realize the green transformation of Tiantai county and promote the high-quality economic and social development of the whole county. As always, Tiantai county will provide support and services for the project construction, and improve the quality and speed of the project construction with first-class standards.
Tiantai pumped storage power station was approved by Zhejiang Provincial Development and Reform Commission on December 22, 2021. It is expected that the first unit will be put into operation in December 2025 and all units will be put into operation in September 2026.
