At this week's event, asmedia announced that it had become the first peripheral company to launch USB4 host controller chipset Xiangshuo technology is one of the first companies to obtain usb-if certification, because its asm4242 host controller is the first company of its kind to obtain certification.

Asm4242 has passed the certification together with asm2464pd device controller. Although it is not clear what type of device controller it is, the PD in the model name indicates that it has local support for USB PD power supply without any additional chip. This should allow a simpler implementation and save some additional components from taking up PCB space.
It is said that asm4242 has PCIe 4.0 X4 interface, so it supports bandwidth up to 64 Gbps. Since this is a dual port controller, it is still not enough for both ports to operate at the full 40 Gbps supported by the USB4 Gen 3x2, but it should be sufficient for most consumer implementations.
Asmedia has also added support for DP alt mode. Of course, USB4 is also backward compatible with thunderbolt 3. Asmedia is already providing samples to its partners. We should hope to better understand the work of asmedia next week, but DIGITIMES mentioned that asmedia has also developed some type of PCIe 5.0 controller and completed the streaming of the above products.
