Volocopter's UAV taxi is one step closer to being put into use. The German company disclosed that voloconnect, its four seat electric VTOL aircraft, completed its first flight in May. The initial test journey of this vehicle was very short, only 2 minutes and 14 seconds, but these operations proved that the aerodynamics and performance of the driverless vehicle that can actually be put into passenger operation are feasible under real-world conditions.

A maximum range of 60 miles and a speed of 155 miles per hour may not sound so exciting. However, they can easily realize their own commuting flight outside the main urban centers. Without traffic jam, people can take it from the suburbs directly to the downtown for business meetings. Voloconnect is actually a supporting product of volocity. Volocity is an evtol aircraft with a short range. Strictly speaking, it serves short-distance urban travel.
Voloconnect is expected to start providing services to customers in 2026, two years later than volocity's expected launch in 2024. Although this is a relatively long time, the unique feature of volocopter is that there are many air taxis for actual flight test. Compared with its competitors, the company is closer to the actual commuting travel situation. Many competitors have only one model or uncertain service schedule.
