Volkswagen plans to revive its scout SUV brand and electrify it as part of its expansion plan in the U.S. market The German company plans to launch a new scout branded electric SUV and a scout branded electric pickup. Volkswagen's board of directors is expected to approve the plan on Wednesday, according to people familiar with the matter.
According to the plan, scout will become a subsidiary of Volkswagen in the United States together with Volkswagen brands such as Volkswagen, Audi, Porsche, Lamborghini and Bentley.
The move will mark the first time Volkswagen has created a new brand in the United States.
Volkswagen's leadership hopes that the name scout will help the company break into the highly competitive and lucrative U.S. market for large SUVs and pickups.
Volkswagen hopes to eventually sell up to 250000 scout branded cars a year in the United States and plans to put them into production in 2026, the people familiar with the matter said.
