The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said on Thursday that it had asked Tesla to provide information on the recent electric fire accident of a Tesla Model y car in Vancouver, Canada, in which the Tesla driver broke the window to escape. NHTSA said the agency "is aware of the incident and has contacted the manufacturer for information."
Recently, Jamil jutha, the owner of Tesla in Vancouver, Canada, said that he had a fire when driving a model y last Friday.
Jamil said that the model y had only been purchased for 8 months. At the time of the incident, the vehicle was running. Suddenly, after receiving an error notification, the whole vehicle was powered off and the doors could not be opened internally. Soon after, the vehicle was full of smoke. Trapped in the car, he finally chose to break the window to escape.
From the picture, it is suspected that the flame is emerging from the compartment of the blue model y, and the power battery at the bottom is in good condition, so the battery fire may be low naturally. The local fire department arrived after the incident and quickly put out the open fire on the vehicle.
Usually, Tesla unlocks the door through electronic buttons in the car, but this design cannot normally open the door when the whole vehicle is powered off. In case of emergency, the car is also equipped with a mechanical door opening device for the main and co drivers.
In this regard, Jamil said that it is difficult to figure out how to use this mechanical device in a state of emergency. He hopes his experience can remind other Tesla owners to be familiar with the performance and device of the vehicle.
According to the instructions of Tesla Model y, when the door cannot be opened, you can use the physical door opening manual door release mechanism, which is located in the front of the door window switches on both sides of the front row.
