Starting with IOS 16, users in the U.S. region will be able to show their ID cards stored in the wallet application in selecting applications that require identity or age verification. For example, apple shows Uber and turo as two applications that can choose to accept the wallet application ID, but it remains to be seen which applications decide to implement this function.
Apple says users can seamlessly display their driver's license or state ID information in supported applications that require identity or age verification with the click of a button. Apple will provide users with an overview of the information collected by the application, and explain whether the data will be stored and for how long. Users will need to be authorized with face ID or touch ID in order to present the ID card to the application.
Arizona and Maryland were the first states in the United States to allow residents to add a driver's license or state ID card to the wallet app. Apple said that other states are also committed to supporting this feature, including Colorado, Hawaii, Mississippi, Ohio, Georgia, Connecticut, Iowa, Kentucky, Oklahoma and Utah, as well as Puerto Rico.
