Eight months after its debut, "squid game" is still the largest TV show on Netflix. In 28 days, Netflix users watched 1.6 billion hours of squid game. This is more than twice as much as any other original series ever produced by the streaming company. Just as users are clamoring to see more, they have to accept the bad news that they may not see the second season of the show until 2024.
The second season of squid game will be launched in 2023 or 2024
This week, Vanity Fair shared a long article on squid game on its website. This article discusses the production of the first season and the challenges faced by director Huang Donghe in obtaining funding.
At the end of the article, Vanity Fair disclosed some information about the second season. According to the publication, Huang Donghe is still discussing the final stage of the second quarter with Netflix. He believes that the new season will not be really broadcast on Netflix until the end of 2023 at the earliest, or 2024.
That's not what fans want to hear, but it's not that surprising. Because if the first season is not as popular as it is now, the TV series may end. According to previous interviews, if Netflix decides to accept the second season, it sounds like Huang Donghe will start from scratch. Therefore, the rapid turn of the second season will never happen.
What will happen in season 2
Here's what the Creator would like to share about the next season of squid game:
He (Huang Donghe) has only about three pages of ideas. He plans to turn these ideas into scripts, so he can't say much except for more games. "Mankind will be tested again through these games.".
Although Huang Donghe may have a general idea about the content of the second season, he is not willing to share any specific details. When asked if the second season would focus on the same theme as the first season, he told Vanity Fair -- "I want to ask a question, 'is real unity among mankind possible?'"
If you watch the first season, you will know the answer of the contestants in the first game to this question. Maybe the next group can break the cycle.
