Polestar's first electric SUV will be officially unveiled in October 2022. The company announced that polar 3, the third car of this new brand of electric performance vehicles, will be officially unveiled in October 2022. This will be polestar's first sport utility vehicle and its first vehicle manufactured in the United States.
Polestar 3 marks polestar's attempt to enter the highly competitive and profitable SUV market in the United States. It will enter the high-end category and compete with Tesla Model x, Audi e-tron, Mercedes Benz EQE, rivian R1s and Fisker ocean. It is worth noting that polestar will be assembled at Volvo's plant in Charleston, South Carolina, making it the first electric vehicle manufactured by the company in the United States.
At launch, the polar 3 will feature a dual motor powertrain and large batteries, with a target of more than 372 miles (600 km) on full power. In addition to being a taller vehicle than the polar 2 fastback sedan, the polar 3 will also include a partial auto drive system for road driving. This will be attributed to the lidar sensor of the supplier luminar, which also provides Volvo with components for hands-free road driving, and NVIDIA, which will provide on-board computing hardware.
Volvo, which co owns polar with its parent company Geely, said that it would launch the hands-free highway driving function as part of its next large platform update, that is, to expand the product architecture (spa2), which will come together with the next generation XC90 SUV and polar 3 in 2022.
Polestar recently announced its plan to go public through merger with a special purpose acquisition company (SPAC). The merger is expected to be completed in the "first half of 2022", after which polestar will become a listed company.
So far, polar has only released two cars: the hybrid coupe polar 1 and the polar 2, which are worth $155000. In addition to the polar 3, the company also plans to release a compact SUV (polar 4) in 2023 and a polar 5 (n é e concept) sports car in 2024. The company also released a fashionable sports car concept called polar O2, and put its high-performance version of polar 2 into limited production.
