Tiktok is launching a new "friends" tab to replace the "discover" tab at the bottom of the app. The company said that the new tag will be launched to more people in the coming weeks, which will enable users on the platform to find the content of users associated with them. Tiktok did not elaborate on the launch, nor did it say whether it would be launched to all users in the future.
"As we continue to celebrate community and creativity, we will bring friend tags to more people in the coming weeks, which will make it easy for you to find and enjoy content from people you connect with, so you can choose more ways to entertain on tiktok," the company said in a tweet.
A screenshot posted by tiktok on twitter shows that once users click on the "friends" tab, they will see a banner that says "watch your friend's video". If you connect with your friends on this app, you will see their content on the page. If you don't, tiktok will advise you to contact your friends through contacts or your Facebook friends. The page also recommends the accounts of people you may know, and displays a follow button next to each name.
Matt Navarra, a social media consultant, first discovered the new label last month and said it would replace the "discover" label. Tiktok is an interesting move to replace its "discovery" tag, which shows users a variety of content, including popular tags and videos. The discovery tab also includes a search bar that lets you search for specific content. It is worth noting that there is also a search icon at the top right of the home page that can be used to search for specific videos and suggest specific searches based on your activities and previous searches.
Tiktok's decision not to use the "discovery" tag is interesting, indicating that it hopes to provide a new way to recommend content based on your actual friends. In some ways, this is really a strange move, especially tiktok already has a "follow" tag that shows all the content of the people you follow on the app, which may include your friends.
