Spotify announced today that with the launch of "spotify island", it will become the first music streaming media brand to officially appear in roblox. Artists and fans will gather here to play interactive tasks, unlock exclusive content and buy artist goods. The new Spotify Island destination in roblox is actually composed of a central continent surrounded by a series of theme islands. Players can explore and interact by walking, running, jumping, touching and picking up various objects.
The world itself is characterized by spotify's green hue and a palette of orange and purple.
There is also a music playing box in the upper right corner of the world, which will have background music provided by soundtrap, which is one of spotify's audio creation tools. The company said the music here can be played or paused, and players can skip tracks.
At the same time, the in-game commodity store will provide all kinds of spotify exclusive commodities that can be brought to other parts of roblox, as well as special artist commodities, which will become an additional source of income for creators. Spotify said that artists will be able to retain spotify's share of the sales of these goods (minus roblox's share), and spotify can help design the goods if necessary.
Initially, by completing tasks around Spotify Island, you can unlock four free items, such as playing sound on the world's Crystal Cave and trampoline, or collecting notes scattered on the island.
There are also some heart-shaped signs around spotify island. Collecting them can unlock the hidden Easter eggs. For example, an Easter egg will change the island from day mode to night mode for individual players. Then, they can pick up the fluorescent stick on the ground and leave the light and shadow traces of their running behind them. A leaderboard will track the heart markers collected by tourists from different islands.
Spotify's vision for the island is to turn roblox players into creators themselves, the company said. When launched, its approach is to let players create sound at the virtual beat production station provided by soundtrap and move in the "stage" area, where they can interact with items such as colored paper guns and bubbles to effectively become the performer itself. But over time, the company plans to expand this experience, but there are no more details.
"This stage is not a typical experience for artists to broadcast to fans. We are turning the script so that players can become creators and really feel that they are performing artists," said Abby Stewart, business development director of spotify.
Spotify also said that the island will continue to develop a new world, focusing on music and fans. The first will be K-park, a customized experience designed to pay tribute to the K-pop culture. The first two artists to activate in this space are stray kids and Sunmi. The latter will offer roblox products from today, while stray kids products will arrive in the coming weeks.
The launch of roblox world comes at a time when music has become an important competitive advantage for online game platforms, as they position themselves as the future entrance to participate in the "metauniverse".
Spotify, which already has more than 2.2 million game related playlists, said it saw the potential to reach younger generation fans after launching its game experience on roblox. According to a Deloitte survey, it cites more than 80% of people in the United States playing games. Generation Z gamers participate in their favorite games for an average of 11 to 13 hours a week.
