、 Total global share In the 1980s, due to the impact of Japan, the global market share of the US semiconductor industry suffered a sharp decline. However, by 1997, the United States regained its leadership with more than 50% of the global market share, which continues today. Today (2021), the total global market share of us semiconductor companies is 46%, the highest in the world, 21% in South Korea, 9% in Europe and Japan, 8% in Taiwan, China and 7% in Chinese Mainland. The sales of semiconductor companies headquartered in the United States increased from US $71.1 billion in 2001 to US $257.5 billion in 2021, with a CAGR of 6.65%.
、 Manufacturing link Most of the semiconductor manufacturing links in the United States are completed by American companies. Data show that in 2021, 79.8% of the semiconductor wafer manufacturing capacity in the United States came from companies headquartered in the United States. Semiconductor companies headquartered in the Asia Pacific region account for 9.5% of domestic production capacity in the United States, as shown below:
Among them, semiconductor companies headquartered in the United States put 43% of front-end manufacturing at home. However, the total share of American semiconductor manufacturing in the world has decreased by more than 10% in the past eight years.

、 Exit In 2021, US semiconductor exports totaled US $62 billion, ranking fifth in US exports, second only to refined oil, aircraft, crude oil and natural gas. Semiconductors account for the largest share of U.S. exports of all electronic products.
、 R & D and expenditure In 2021, the total R & D and capital expenditure of American semiconductor companies, including fabless, was $90.6 billion. The total investment in R & D is US $50.2 billion, with a CAGR of about 5.9% over the past two decades. The total investment spread to each employee (measured by the total investment in R & D, new plant and equipment) increased to a record $206000. In terms of the percentage of R & D expenditure in sales (18%), the US semiconductor industry is second only to the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries, which is far ahead of 7.6% in Chinese Mainland and 11% in Taiwan, China.
、 Employment and productivity According to the SIA report, the number of talents directly involved in the semiconductor industry in the United States is 277000, but each semiconductor employee can stimulate 5.7 other jobs. This means that the semiconductor industry has created 1.6 million jobs in the United States. (proofread / Aaron)
