Bonn is one of the oldest cities in Germany. In the lower half of the picture, it can be seen across the Rhine River, about 24 kilometers (15 miles) south of Cologne. Bonn is located in the south of the Rhine Ruhr district. It is the largest metropolitan area in Germany, with more than 11 million residents. The city has a total area of 141 square kilometers (54 square miles) and 330000 residents.
As the birthplace of Ludwig van Beethoven, Bonn is committed to promoting the art of music, and its Beethoven concert hall is the center of the city's music life. At the social level, Bonn is a very active city with many art galleries, gardens and lively nightlife.
Bonn is one of the top conference cities in Germany. It is the seat of many international organizations and several United Nations agencies, including the United Nations Framework Convention on climate change (UNFCCC).

Along this river, it is one of the most modern conference centers in Europe: Bonn World Conference Center. One of the world's largest earth observation conferences - the ESA "life planet seminar" will be held in Bonn, Germany, from 23 to 27 May 2022. Held every three years, the symposium brings together scientists and researchers from all over the world, as well as the industry and users of earth observation data to introduce and discuss the latest discoveries in earth science. With the support of the German Aerospace Center, this week-long event focuses on how earth observation contributes to science and society. There are more than 240 scientific conferences on earth observation science and satellite missions. There will also be extensive conferences focusing on the progress of artificial intelligence, the digital twin of the earth, business opportunities benefiting from the space industry, the upcoming Council of Ministers of ESA in 2022, and more.
