According to Reuters, VK, a Russian social networking company, launched a program called rustore New app store to replace Google play store The news media said the application was in response to the Russian government's initiative to create alternative services, so it did not rely on Western companies.

Android users in Russia can access rustore from today, but IOS users are unlikely to use it due to system restrictions. The app store mainly provides Russian apps. When it is released, rustore will come with just 100 apps, some of which include government services. Still, Vladimir Kiriyenko, VK's chief executive, said it "has everything it needs to become Russia's largest app store".
