In recent times, the pressure on the auto supply chain has gradually eased along with the resumption of work and production by key enterprises in Shanghai. However, the previous shutdown and suspension of production of some auto parts enterprises still brought a considerable impact on the sales of the whole vehicle enterprises in April.
On May 1, a number of new car makers revealed their April delivery "report cards", with Zero Runner, Xiaopeng, Nezha, Weilai, and RISO falling below 10,000 units and showing negative growth year-over-year. Only Xiaopeng and Nezha maintained positive year-over-year delivery figures.
Supply chain factors impacted by collective decline in new power deliveries
On May 1, the top five new car makers collectively disclosed their April delivery figures. It is worth noting that, in terms of ringgit, the April deliveries of the top five new car makers all declined, with Azera and Ideal showing year-on-year declines. In addition, this is the first time this year that the top four new car makers have collectively dropped below 10,000 units in monthly deliveries.
Specifically, Zero Motors sold 9,087 units in April, topping the monthly delivery list of new car makers, down a slight 0.10 percent from the previous year. 30,666 units were delivered cumulatively from January to April 2022.
Xiaopeng Auto topped the list with 9,002 deliveries in April, up 75 percent year-on-year. Among them, 3,714 units of Xiaopeng P7 were delivered; 3,564 units of Xiaopeng P5 were delivered and 1,724 units of Xiaopeng G3 series were delivered. From January to April this year, Xiaopeng Auto delivered 43,563 units in total, up 136% year-on-year.
However, compared to the previous month's deliveries of 15,414 units, this April, deliveries of Xiaopeng's cars fell by 41.60 percent from the previous month.
From January to April, Nezha delivered a total of 38,965 vehicles, up 240 percent year-on-year.
The data disclosed by Azera shows that in April, the company delivered 5,074 new vehicles, down 28.56 percent year-on-year and 49.18 percent sequentially. Among them, 693 units of Azera ET74 were delivered in the month.
On April 9 this year, Azera had released a statement saying that the company's supply chain partners located in Jilin, Shanghai, Jiangsu and many other places have stopped production one after another because of the epidemic. As a result, Azera's entire vehicle production has been suspended, and many users will have their vehicles delivered late in the near future.
In addition, Ideal Auto also disclosed its latest delivery figures on May 1. The company delivered 4,167 new vehicles in April, down 24.77 percent year-on-year and 62.23 percent sequentially.

Ideal Auto's Changzhou base is located in Changzhou, Jiangsu Province, in the heart of the Yangtze River Delta, while over 80% of Ideal Auto's parts suppliers are located in the Yangtze River Delta, and a large portion of them are located in Shanghai and Kunshan, Jiangsu Province. Due to the impact of the epidemic in the Yangtze River Delta, some suppliers located in Shanghai and Kunshan, Jiangsu were unable to supply, and some of them even stopped working and shipping completely, resulting in the inability to maintain production after the existing parts inventory was digested, which had a great impact on the production of RISO in April, resulting in the delayed delivery of new vehicles for some customers.
Shen Yannan revealed that RISO is currently working with supply chain companies to actively restore production capacity under the requirements of epidemic prevention and control, and shorten the waiting period for RISO ONE users who have reserved their vehicles.
For its part, Azure also revealed to the Securities Times-e that the company's production is now gradually resuming. Meeting the order demand requires further overcoming the pressure from the epidemic, supply chain, etc. Currently, Azera is working with all parties, including partners, to strive for more production and deliveries.
For its part, Xiaopeng Auto said that the company has now actively collaborated with the upstream and downstream to overcome industry-wide difficulties with the help of relevant ministries and authorities, and made every effort to ensure production and smooth delivery.
It is reported that on April 23, the Shanghai Guest District announced that 49 enterprises related to the automotive industry chain have resumed work and production in an orderly manner.
