According to foreign media reports, Tesla is seeking to acquire a 100 hectare land near the Berlin super factory to expand its Berlin factory Tesla plans to buy about 100 hectares of land located in the east of the Berlin factory, RE1 railway and between L23 and L38 national highways. Tesla announced in 2020 that the company would transport as many supplier products as possible to the Berlin plant by train, and the assembled Tesla cars would also be transported by rail.
Tesla is currently planning more storage areas and a freight station for this purpose.
It is reported that the plan has not been finalized, and the price of this land has not been determined. However, according to foreign media reports, the price of this land may be about 13 million euros (about US $13.7 million). If the plan is passed and approved, construction can start next summer.
At the same time, Tesla is currently trying to increase the production of model y in the Berlin plant, but it has encountered some challenges. Green League, an environmental protection organization, applied to the Oder spree regional authority to revoke the business license of the Tesla Berlin factory after learning that there was a leak in the paint workshop.
According to the information of relevant departments, on April 11, 15000 liters of paint mixture leaked from the paint workshop of Tesla Berlin factory, which was then extracted by a treatment company. A day later, two to three liters of paint leaked to the ground during loading. The paint is believed to be harmful to water quality, but a report claims that the paint has not penetrated the sewer system or groundwater.
Nevertheless, Green League asked to revoke the license of Tesla's Berlin plant until Tesla completed laying in some unpaved areas around the paint workshop to prevent dangerous substances from entering the aquifer. Green League claimed that if the region did not act according to its requirements, the organization would ask the Ministry of environment to intervene.
A person familiar with the matter said that the paint workshop is the main bottleneck faced by Tesla Berlin factory.
