Is Huawei's "real Son"? We Picked It. The Water Was Deep Behind Us

Today, a mobile phone is quietly on sale. Yes, it is the Dingqiao TD tech M40, which is jokingly called "Huawei's own son". Two days ago, when I opened the website to brush some information according to the usual practice, I saw a message jump out directly: "Dingqiao M40 officially opened pre-sale, which looks like Huawei."** At that time, when I clicked in, I found that this looks like Huawei. This is clearly Huawei mate 40?!

Are you sure it wasn't a mother? Don't tell me. There's a mystery here.

From the poster and Jingdong's product details page, there is no difference in appearance except that the back cover part becomes the icon of "TD tech"

A colleague said, "let's change it into a Huawei shell. Is it impeccable?"

Let's have a good look at what this Dingqiao M40 is... So we decided to buy it on the spot! Make an appointment to place an order!

When I get the real machine, I'll give you a wave of detailed evaluation and interpretation.

How to put it, it looks like a replacement product of mate 40, but there is no Hongmeng, no Kirin chip, no Leica... But it has 5g

From the current introduction, the M40 is positioned as a 5g flagship performance mobile phone, which provides three colors: white, silver and black (even the color name is the same).

The chip is equipped with MediaTek Tianji 1000 +, and its performance is roughly similar to that of Qualcomm Xiaolong 860, while the mate 40 uses Kirin 9000e... Is the gap a little too big

If the Kirin 990e of mate 40e is replaced, the mobile phone chip of Dingqiao is still a little improved.

Let's look at other configurations of this phone:

6.5-inch 60 Hz (up to 90 Hz) OLED curved screen, dual speakers, 4200 MAH battery and 40 W fast charging. The specifications of the rear three camera lens module are almost no different from those of the mate 40.

At present, Dingqiao M40 has two versions of 8 + 128G and 8 + 256g, and the starting price of Jingdong Mall is 3999 yuan.

What do you say? As the mobile phone configuration in 2020 (probably), now there are a lot of more advanced mate 40 with a price of 4000 yuan on the free fish... Even if we just want to buy 40 pro, it's not expensive

In contrast, this thing is expensive and not cutting-edge. Tony thinks Dingqiao M40 will probably hit the street again.

It seems that this mobile phone is really super similar to Huawei, right? Does anyone think that this is a domestic "Shanzhai" manufacturer emerging from some corner?

In fact, Dingqiao really has a "blood relationship" with Huawei

Last November, they launched a mobile phone called TD tech N8 pro, which is very similar to Huawei's Nova 8 series.

Solved the case, mate40 = M40, Nova 8 = N8... I guess the third mobile phone of Dingqiao should be called "TD tech P5"

In other words, Dingqiao took the N8 Pro off the shelf not long after that. According to them, this mobile phone is aimed at large quantities of enterprise purchase orders, rather than retail business for ordinary consumers**

Their officials have also admitted that their products and components are purchased from Huawei.

So the question is, what kind of company is Dingqiao? In the cognition of many people, this name has never been heard before. Why did it suddenly become related to Huawei.

According to the data of tianyancha, Dingqiao is wholly owned by a company named "TD Tech Holding Limited", which was incorporated in Hong Kong, China in 2003.

The current legal representative of this company is Xu Zhijun... At the same time, this person is also one of the vice chairmen of Huawei

Again, the predecessor of Dingqiao was actually a joint venture between Siemens and Huawei. At that time, Siemens accounted for 51% and Huawei accounted for 49%. Later, Siemens sold its shares in Dingqiao to Nokia, so Nokia became the largest shareholder**

Therefore, Dingqiao Communication Technology Co., Ltd. is actually a joint venture between Nokia and Huawei

According to the agreement reached at the beginning, Siemens and Huawei invested part of their employees to form a new company. Meanwhile, the CEO and CFO of the company were appointed by NOSi, and the COO was in the charge of Huawei.

They moved all TD-CDMA (3G mobile communication) technology research and development of NOSi in Europe to this company, which also laid the early business development direction of Dingqiao.

Of course, this model is not very smooth. Although we work together, there is no delay in hiding some core technology patents.

Shareholders are also competitors, I understand.

However, this kind of dishonest cooperation affected the business development of the company at that time. Seeing that the invested funds did not get enough return, Huawei could not sit still.

In 2008, they discussed with NOSi and decided to take over the affairs of Dingqiao independently. To this end, they specially changed the management assigned by NOSi from top to bottom, most of them into Huawei internal personnel, and began to focus on the wireless network communication technology under 3G.

After being forcibly "corrected" by Huawei for a wave, Dingqiao's market share increased at that time, but it still did not reach the level of the first echelon, such as ZTE.

The problem is that within a few years, 3G network began to be replaced by 4G. Dingqiao had no choice but to change its business direction.

Fortunately, with the technology accumulation under 3G network, Dingqiao began to provide industry-specific network communication services for government, enterprises and other institutions and units.

In other words, people play b-terminal, which is different from ordinary mobile phone manufacturers playing C-terminal**

And we can't say Dingqiao has no technical strength at all.

In addition to shifting the strategic focus from 3G standards to industry private networks, they also launched a broadband multimedia digital cluster solution, Witten, and a commercial customized terminal solution based on LTE (a transition technology between 3G and 4G).

The scheme called Witten is actually a little similar to the current Internet of things. It is a mobile communication system that can remotely command and dispatch, control the normal operation of the machine, support video and voice calls, and emergency security.

Or you can think of it as a professional customized version of the company's internal Internet of things

These businesses of Dingqiao are generally widely used in heavy industry, large enterprises or government departments, such as power plants, petrochemical industry, public security departments, airports and ports

In 2019, they took the lead in releasing and applying 5g technology in the field of industry private network and broadband digital cluster.

But after all, Dingqiao is not a company unilaterally controlled by Huawei. It only has a relative voice. Don't forget that Nokia itself has some global competition with Huawei, so the shareholders of Dingqiao actually seem to be in a "awkward" state.

This also makes their business always in a situation of "being less than the top and more than the bottom". It seems that the technical background is very strong. It can be mentioned that domestic communication terminals and broadband digital trunking business companies, "hytera" has a higher popularity.

I know that several leaders who claim to be employees of Dingqiao said that the technology and marketing channels they can use at present mainly rely on Huawei, while Nokia, another major shareholder, does not seem to have plans to share technology with Dingqiao

It can also be seen from the side that Dingqiao has formed an inseparable relationship with Huawei in recent years.

Today, not only Xu Zhijun, but also Yan Lida, he Haipeng and other president level executives from Huawei have become directors of Dingqiao.

Including Deng Biao, the current CEO of Dingqiao. Although it seems that he has nothing to do with Huawei, in fact, he is also a veteran of Huawei.

Deng Biao has joined Huawei since 1996 and has been holding various president positions in different departments. He also became the senior vice president of Huawei in 2012... It took another four years before he was transferred to Dingqiao as CEO.

After that, they began to fully enter the Internet of things market and set up a R & D base in Chengdu to study product solutions in this field.

However, it should be noted that the chairman of Dingqiao is still the legal representative of Nokia in China

Therefore, it is inappropriate for to say that he is Huawei's own son. Half a son is more accurate**

It is also for this reason that Dingqiao can use Huawei's chips and technology in a righteous manner, and launch the "Shanzhai machine" of jacketed mate 40 at the same time.

In other words, from the perspective of shares, Dingqiao should actually be regarded as an industry under Nokia, so it has not been directly affected by the sanctions imposed on Huawei

You can think that this is another "curve to save the country" of Huawei. After all, it can only be said that it is not a way to release its own "5g mobile phone" in a similar way of "outsourcing".

However, they have also done the operation of using Huawei's old models, carrying their own home-made secure and customized industry terminal systems, and then finding the government, enterprises and operators to purchase in batches

Let's just say that Huawei's new model seems to have no part in Dingqiao. However, although consumers do not recognize it, there is no shortage of people to pay for it in Dingqiao.

Tony also thought of a question: does the fact that the M40 will use Tianji chip just mean that even if it is operated through Dingqiao, Huawei's supply chain problems cannot be solved for the time being?

In terms of products alone, you may be able to accept the appearance of "dolls", but there is a high probability that you will not accept products with M40 configuration that does not match the price at all.

What's more, the domestic mobile phone industry is already on the inside. Which of OV and Xiaomi manufacturers seems to be able to crush the Dingqiao M40 within the range of 4000 yuan?

In a word, even if Dingqiao is really Huawei's own son, does it want consumers to pay for this "5g" name alone? It's not realistic.

You don't even have the Hongmeng system marked by Huawei... It may be good if it is positioned at the middle and low end, but you recognize the flagship series as soon as you come up.
