In a privacy and security related update announced at today's Google I / O 2022 conference, the company said it would bring phishing protection to its productivity application suite, including docs, sheets and slides. It will also directly remind users of other security problems that may exist in their account on the user's account data, and provide a new tool to make it easier to request the deletion of personal information from Google search.
The company has developed technologies to protect users from online fraud elsewhere in its products and services, including Gmail and chrome browsers. Google said that these protective measures have detected and prevented billions of threats so far, which helps to further strengthen Google's artificial intelligence driven protective measures. That's why it can now extend this protection to other applications that are often used in the workplace.
Next, if users find a suspicious link at work, the system will alert them to the problem and take them back to safety, just like on the Internet. The company pointed out that in a growing number of phishing scams, this new feature will help improve the security of users. At present, more than 90% of network attacks are caused by phishing scams. With the release of this version, users of google apps will also be warned about other security issues on their profiles.
"More than 10 years ago, we were the first consumer technology company to provide two-step verification. Last year, we were the first company to open it by default... We don't want people to worry about the security of their accounts, so at the I / O conference, we also launched a new warning on the profile images of all Google applications to let users know that if there is a security problem that requires their attention," Google account security director guemmy Kim said.
The company announced at the I / O conference that it had registered two-way authentication for another 150 million accounts last year alone.
When a problem occurs, a yellow alert will pop up on the screen, which is located above the account information picture. When clicked, users will be taken to a page with a set of recommended actions they need to take to maintain network security. In terms of the protection provided to users, this does not necessarily provide new functions, but highlights the potential risks in a more obvious way, which users may be reluctant to ignore.
Another new feature is iteration related to existing data protection objectives.
In April, Google announced that it would allow users to request that their personal contact information, including phone numbers, e-mail addresses or physical addresses, be deleted from Google search. This change occurred after the EU passed the general data protection regulations in 2018, which stipulates that individuals have the right to request to delete information about themselves from search engines, also known as the "right to be forgotten".
Previously, this process involved filling out and signing a form. But now, Google says it will launch a new tool to simplify the request process. When it comes out, if users encounter Google search results containing their phone number, home address or email, they will be able to quickly request deletion from Google search where you find them.
Just click the result type you want to delete in Google's user interface and submit it directly to Google. All operations can be completed instead of filling in the form. At the same time, it can also track previous requests in one place, including which requests have been submitted, which are waiting and which have been approved.
Google said the feature will be available in google apps in the coming months and will be accessed in individual Google search results on the web.
