Sony Corporation issued a statement via e-mail that the former CEO of Sony Group, Nobuyuki Inoue, died of liver failure on June 2 at the age of 84. From April, 1995 to June, 2005, Nobuyuki Inoue served as the CEO of Sony. During his tenure, Sony's 2001 financial report hit the largest market value in history. In his late tenure, he encountered Sony crisis, which triggered the stock selling of Japanese high-tech companies.

The current CEO of Sony, Kenichiro Yoshida, said in a statement: "I have served as the general manager of the CEO strategy office for two years under Mr. Nobuyuki Inoue since 1998.
