The widely used ffmpeg multimedia coding library today incorporates avif multiplexing support for image formats based on AV1 royalty free video codec technology At present, the support for avif image format in Internet applications is increasing - especially now there is a wide range of mainstream web browser support, and avif has proved to provide better compression efficiency and better detail preservation than JPEG.
Based on the existing mov / MP4 multiplexer code, avif multiplexing support has now been added to the ffmpeg library. Avif multiplexing support in ffmpeg can be used to convert still images in other formats to avif, as well as more complex uses, such as converting images to avif animation images.
This avif multiplexer for ffmpeg was developed by Google's vignesh Venkatasubramanian.
