Backblaze, a cloud storage service provider, recently released the latest hard disk failure rate report, which spans the first quarter of this year. In that quarter, BB had 207000 mechanical hard disks in service, with an average annual failure rate of about 1.22%. The most impressive ones are Seagate 6tb and Toshiba 4tb. Although the number is 886 and 97 respectively, the failure rate is zero**
Seagate's model is st6000dx000, of which 859 pieces have been in service as early as the first quarter of 2015. Even the latest one has been powered on for more than 4 years, but its performance is as stable as an old dog.
The service life of Toshiba 4tb (md04aba400v) is similar to that of Seagate, but the sample size is too small and not representative strictly.
Several other zero fault hard drives are very young, and most of them focus on super large capacities such as 14tb and 16TB.
However, the one with the highest annual failure rate is hgst's 8tb model huh728080ale604, which is 24.31%.
