Today is national eye love day. According to the data released by the National Health Commission in 2021, the overall myopia rate of children and adolescents in China will be 52.7% in 2020, with more than 100million people. The problem of low-age myopia is prominent. Most parents are very anxious. They try their best to alleviate their children's myopia. However, the "money encircling" routine composed of some illegal vendors and individuals is also quietly staged.
According to incomplete statistics of sina technology, at present, various myopia treatment schemes emerge in endlessly in the market: some people claim to cure myopia under the banner of acupuncture and massage "reducing lens", some sell eye treatment devices under the banner of "high technology", and some sell cornea shaping lens (OK lens) for cornea shaping treatment at a high price
But at present, the feedback from the consumer side is that "many myopia treatment effects are not ideal, and there are many 'cure' schemes for myopia."
Today, we begin to explore this question: is there any special product in the market for the treatment of myopia with chaos? How should parents worry about their children?
The OK mirror is not OK, but it is difficult to reduce the degree of the reducing mirror
According to the propaganda information of OK lens, i.e. corneal plastic lens, is a reversible non-surgical physical orthopedic treatment method, which can effectively prevent the development of myopia. However, this serious ophthalmic treatment product, driven by the market, is gradually evolving into magic glasses to cure myopia.
"Wear it for eight hours at night and do not wear glasses during the day", "when you wake up, your myopia disappears". A series of well-known advertising slogans of OK glasses are making this myopia treatment product which "can take off the glasses in sleep" more and more "legendary". At the same time, more and more marketing deceptions and consumer injuries are brewing.
Two years ago, at the recommendation of Qingdao Medigue Eye Hospital, Ms. Liu equipped a pair of cornea shaping glasses for children with myopia. She wore them at night and took them off during the day. According to the manufacturer, the annual growth of children wearing OK glasses can be controlled within 50 degrees. However, after spending more than 10000 yuan and wearing OK glasses for more than a year, it is found that the myopia of children's eyes has increased by nearly 200 degrees.
According to Ms. Liu, at the beginning of wearing OK glasses, the child did not adapt very well, and there were a series of stress reactions, accompanied by chronic conjunctivitis symptoms such as redness, swelling and itching of both eyes, during which the treatment of eye allergy had to be stopped. However, at the suggestion of the president and chief physician of Medigue hospital, they finally continued to wear them. However, during the examination more than a year later, it was found that the myopia degree of one eye of the child had grown to 350 degrees, and that of the other eye had grown to 375 degrees, an average of nearly 200 degrees.
Ms. Liu's case is not a case in point. On March 14 this year, Nanjing Intermediate People's Court issued the top ten typical cases of consumer protection in 2021, one of which was related to OK mirror. According to the case, Ding purchased corneal plastic lens products from an Yishi company from 2015 to 2017, but after wearing the corneal plastic lens for two years, he developed retinal detachment in his right eye.
In this regard, Ding filed a lawsuit with the people's Court of Qinhuai District, Nanjing, requesting an order that a Yishi company, a Shikang company and a Shitong company constitute fraud and bear punitive damages. The court finally found that the medical device registration certificate held by the sued company when selling OK mirrors to Ding had expired, which was an illegal operation. The court agreed with the plaintiff's request and demanded that the sued object compensate the plaintiff three times for the economic losses.
In the two cases, the OK mirror, which is said to be an artifact for "curing myopia", had completely opposite or even harmful effects when used by some consumers.
The third case came from a 12-year-old girl, lily. Because of insufficient adjustment, insufficient collection and exophoric deviation of both eyes, she should have used adjustment and collection training to enhance adjustment and reduce exophoric deviation, but because she wore a "zoom lens" with double light and near prism, which was completely contrary to the patient's visual function test data, her vision eventually increased by 400 degrees instead of decreasing. Prior to this, the new evening news also published the news that "a 10-year-old girl has worn a 'reduced degree lens' for three years, and the degree has increased by 500 degrees instead of decreasing".
On the way for parents to help their children solve the problem of myopia, they inadvertently chose non-conforming businesses to wear incorrect products, which eventually made it difficult to really solve the problem of children's myopia. The OK glasses for treating myopia are no longer OK, and the "reducing glasses" for reducing the degree of myopia are also difficult to reduce the degree at the beginning.
Expert: there are four types of anti myopia products in the market, and the highest effective rate is no more than 60%
According to Zhang Jing, a doctor of Ming optometry and an ophthalmologist of former Tongren Hospital, who introduced sina science and technology, in fact, the products on the market for controlling and preventing myopia are mainly divided into four categories: OK glasses, frame defocus glasses, low concentration atropine and defocus soft glasses. Among the four prevention and treatment methods for myopia, the effectiveness of OK lens wearers with myopia increasing by less than 50 degrees per year is only 50%-60%, the effectiveness of frame defocused eyes is between 30%-40%, and the effectiveness of low concentration atropine is also about 50%.
"No myopia prevention and control product can guarantee 100% effective myopia prevention and control." Zhang Jing said that according to different children's eye use and treatment cooperation, as well as different parents' economic conditions, different children will eventually choose different myopia prevention and treatment programs, and the effective treatment that these programs can achieve is not the same.
As a matter of fact, as early as 2019, the Ministry of education and other departments have jointly issued the notice on further standardizing children's and adolescents' myopia correction and effectively strengthening supervision, which clearly requires institutions or individuals not to use "rehabilitation" and "reduction" in marketing to mislead the public. In the notice on further standardizing and strengthening the supervision of children and adolescents' myopia correction issued by the National Health Commission, the State Administration of market supervision and other six departments, it was also clearly pointed out that "under the current medical technology conditions, myopia cannot be cured".
Zhang Jing said that at present, the relevant national departments have included OK glasses and other myopia treatment products into the "three-level medical devices" (that is, the medical devices with the highest risk level in the country). When parents purchase relevant products and supporting services, they suggest that they must take their children to formal medical institutions for personality testing.
"From the provision and recommendation of different products, as well as the follow-up accurate fitting and follow-up re examination treatment, to the final product replacement and other long-term services, myopia treatment is a multi-dimensional thing, which can not be determined by a single factor. We must choose a professional and reliable medical institution to be more guaranteed."
Although myopia cannot be cured, it can be prevented and controlled. In addition to congenital genetic factors, the acquired unscientific eye habit is the main cause. Zhang Jing suggested, "in addition to cooperating with the treatment, everyone is the first responsible person for their own health. Students should also try to reduce the time of 'reading the screen', and should maintain more than two hours of extracurricular activities every day, while maintaining a correct learning posture.
"These are all very basic and well-known common sense of eye care, but there are still very few things we can really do." Zhang Jing believes that it is crucial to love the eyes of teenagers and even everyone, starting from the most basic little things.
